Hurghada International Airport Expansion Enters Final Phase
The EGP 4.2 billion expansion of Hurghada International Airport is on track for completion by mid-2027, doubling passenger capacity to 15 million annually.
The long-awaited expansion of Hurghada International Airport has entered its final phase, with the Ministry of Civil Aviation confirming that 75% of construction work is now complete. The EGP 4.2 billion project will double the airport's annual passenger capacity to 15 million.
New Terminal Features
The expansion includes a new 45,000-square-meter terminal building with 20 additional gates, expanded duty-free areas, VIP lounges, and upgraded baggage handling systems. A second runway is also being added to reduce congestion during peak hours.

The project has created approximately 3,500 construction jobs and will generate an estimated 2,000 permanent positions once operational.
Real Estate Implications
Industry observers note that airport expansions historically correlate with increased property values in surrounding areas. The northern corridor leading to the airport, in particular, has seen a flurry of new hotel and residential projects. Land prices along the airport road have appreciated approximately 25% since the expansion was announced in 2023.
